Today, May 6th, is National Nurses Day. To celebrate and thank all our nurses at Wayne Memorial, nursing administration handed out lifesaver candies with a “You’re a Lifesaver” pin and a lottery ticket to some 340 members of the hospital’s nursing department, including the medical secretaries. Non-winners were eligible for a drawing for prizes later. Director of Patient Care Services Jim Pettinato, RN, joked that the whole effort was a “retention initiative.” On a serious note, Pettinato and his team are members of an honorable and essential profession. Nurses are on the front lines every day, treating and saving lives during the COVID crisis and always. Wayne Memorial employs more than 200 registered nurses, nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners and licensed practical nurses, as well as close to 100 nurse aides. And a shout out to the RNs, CRNPs, LPNs and nurse-midwives of our affiliate, Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers and all the nurses at our skilled nursing facility, Wayne Woodlands Manor, for all their hard work day-in, day-out! Nurses Week starts today, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, and ends on the 12th every year in May. If you see a nurse during Nurse’s week, give them a high five!
